Alice In Chains formed in Seattle in 1987 and pulled through the Seattle grunge wave with Facelift on Columbia in August 1990 and Dirt in September 1992, the two records that anchored the band's early Sub Pop-adjacent visual register alongside the Jar of Flies EP in January 1994 and the self-titled Tripod LP in November 1995. Black Gives Way to Blue in September 2009 and Rainier Fog in August 2018 continued the catalogue with William DuVall on lead. The Moon Tree graphic sits inside that Pacific-Northwest scene register.
