Deftones formed in Sacramento, California in 1988 around Chino Moreno's vocals, Stephen Carpenter's downtuned guitar and Abe Cunningham on drums, breaking wide on Around the Fur (1997) and White Pony (2000) and running through Diamond Eyes (2010), Koi No Yokan (2012) and Ohms (2020). The Static Skull motif carries the band's darker end of the sleeve arc rather than pointing to any single album.
