Eric B. and Rakim came out of Long Island and Wyandanch in the mid-eighties, dropping Paid in Full on 4th & B'way in July 1987, Follow the Leader on Uni in 1988 and Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em on MCA in 1990. Rakim's calm, syllable-dense flow and Eric B.'s deep-crate James Brown-and-Bobby Byrd samples rewrote what a two-man rap record could sound like. The back print carries the title-track statement in full.
