The Jam formed in Woking, Surrey around 1972 and cut six studio albums between In the City May 1977 and The Gift March 1982, from All Mod Cons November 1978 and Setting Sons November 1979 through Sound Affects November 1980. Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler rebuilt the mod register that RAF-roundel iconography had first carried through Sixties scooter culture and turned it into the wardrobe shorthand of late-Seventies British punk and new wave.
