Pinball Wizard first arrived on the double LP Tommy in May 1969 on Track Records and Decca, released as a single ahead of the album on 7 March 1969 and peaking at UK #4 and US #19 that spring. Townshend, Daltrey, Entwistle and Moon's rock-opera anchor about a deaf, dumb and blind pinball prodigy gave the band a set-list mainstay through Woodstock August 1969, the Isle of Wight 1970 and Ken Russell's 1975 film adaptation, and the flipper motif riffs on that pinball-machine imagery.
