Peter Blake and Jann Haworth painted the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band bass-drum face for the 1967 cover, mixing carnival showcard lettering with the band's fictitious military-band persona. Blake worked from a fairground drum, drawn on the sleeve alongside the cutouts of the Beatles' cultural heroes.
