Black Sabbath formed in Aston, Birmingham in 1968 around Tony Iommi's down-tuned riff, Geezer Butler on bass, Bill Ward behind the kit and Ozzy Osbourne on vocals. The wavy wordmark treatment took hold across the sleeve arc from the self-titled 1970 debut into Paranoid (1970) and Master of Reality (1971).
