Metallica formed in Los Angeles in 1981 around James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo on the current four-piece. The angular wordmark these socks carry was drawn by Hetfield himself for the band's 1982 first single. By Ride The Lightning in 1984 it had become the visual signature the catalogue grew up around.
