American Idiot landed on Reprise in September 2004, Green Day's punk-rock opera around the Jesus of Suburbia character, with the trio of Armstrong, Dirnt and Cool at the height of their political-rock cycle. The hand-clutching-heart-grenade sleeve, credited to Chris Bilheimer, became one of the defining pieces of 2000s album artwork.
