The Jam formed in Woking in 1972 around Paul Weller's mod obsession, and by 1977's In the City had signed to Polydor and taken the punk-and-mod hybrid to the UK singles chart. Across six studio albums from In the City (1977) to The Gift (1982) the trio locked in mod suits, Rickenbacker chime and Weller's kitchen-sink lyricism before he pulled the plug in 1982. The group-shot print holds that studio-portrait period.
