Nile formed in Greenville, South Carolina in 1993 around Karl Sanders' Egyptian-themed lyrical framing, building a technical death-metal catalogue that runs Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka (1998), In Their Darkened Shrines (2002), Annihilation of the Wicked (2005), Those Whom the Gods Detest (2009) and Vile Nilotic Rites (2019). The scarab emblem carries the Ancient Egyptian iconography that runs through the band's sleeve art into a single beetle silhouette.
