Thin Lizzy formed in Dublin in 1969, Phil Lynott fronting the group as vocalist and bass player alongside Eric Bell, Brian Downey and later the twin-guitar era of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson. The band's electric arrangement of the traditional Irish folk song "Whisky in the Jar" landed as a single in 1972 and hit the UK top ten in early 1973, becoming Thin Lizzy's international breakthrough and one of the most-covered Celtic-rock crossovers to follow.
