Kreator formed in Essen, West Germany in 1982 under the name Tormentor before renaming for the 1985 debut Endless Pain. Pleasure to Kill (1986), Terrible Certainty (1987) and Coma of Souls (1990) built the Teutonic thrash sound with Mille Petrozza fronting throughout, and the skull motif has run through the band's visual identity since the mid-80s.
