1999 was released on 27 October 1982 as Prince's fifth studio album, a double LP recorded largely in his Minneapolis studio setup and pushed by the title track, Little Red Corvette and Delirious. The record broke Prince out of the R&B chart and onto pop-radio rotation ahead of Purple Rain two years later. The back-print design uses the record's Times-Square-lettering typography.
