John Pasche drew the Tongue and Lips at the Royal College of Art in 1970 after a briefing session with Mick Jagger, who wanted a mark that could match the band's live swagger without leaning on their faces. The tongue first appeared inside the Sticky Fingers sleeve in 1971 and has since run alongside every subsequent studio LP from Exile on Main St. through Tattoo You and out to Hackney Diamonds. On a mesh-back build the graphic keeps its lip-loud front-panel presence, and the cotton-blend crown gets the airflow the full-cotton baseball-cap cousin can't offer.
