Rotting Christ formed in Athens in 1987 around Sakis and Themis Tolis, with the catalogue running from Thy Mighty Contract through Theogonia, Aealo and Pro Xristou as the band became the defining export of the Hellenic black metal scene. The Hellenic Black Metal Legions design points back at that scene heritage, the Athens-rooted founding wave that ran alongside Varathron and Necromantia in the late 80s into the early 90s.
