Hell Awaits, released March 1985 on Metal Blade Records, was Slayer's second studio album and the record where the four-piece's apocalyptic-thrash template fully crystallised. Released a year ahead of Reign in Blood, it set the visual and sonic groundwork for the band's eighties run. The artwork's hellfire-and-demons motif still hits as hard on a back patch as it did on the original LP sleeve.
