Rumours dropped in February 1977. Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks recorded through their own collapsing relationships and came out with Go Your Own Way, Dreams, Don't Stop and The Chain. The album sold over 40 million copies and won the 1978 Album of the Year Grammy, and Herbert Worthington's cover photograph (Fleetwood and Nicks posed in costume, Fleetwood holding the dangling balls he'd taken from a pub toilet) became one of the most-recognised pieces of late-70s rock imagery.
