Hushed & Grim arrived on Reprise in October 2021 as Mastodon's ninth studio record, David Bottrill producing across a fifteen-track double LP that leaned deeper into the band's elegiac register than the tight-focus Emperor of Sand. Paul Romano's cover art threaded serpent, skull and celestial imagery through the sleeve, framing the record's mournful pull.
