Freddie Mercury designed the Queen crest, drawing on his Ealing Art College graphic-design training and the astrological signs of the four band members: two lions for Roger Taylor and John Deacon (Leo), a crab for Brian May (Cancer) and two fairies for himself (Virgo), all set around the crowned Q. The crest first appeared on the 1973 self-titled debut sleeve and has anchored Queen's visual identity ever since.
