Run DMC formed in Hollis, Queens in 1981: Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell. The trio brought hip-hop into the rock-mainstream conversation, and King of Rock, their second album, released in January 1985 on Profile, carried a title track that became one of the foundation rap-rock crossovers.
