Yellow Submarine dropped January 1969 as the soundtrack to the George Dunning-directed animated film, with Heinz Edelmann's psychedelic art direction giving the record one of the Beatles' most-recognisable visual identities. The album gave us the title track (originally on Revolver, 1966), All You Need Is Love, Hey Bulldog and the four George Martin orchestral instrumentals on side B. Edelmann's animated visuals (the Blue Meanies, Pepperland, the submarine itself) became one of the most-imitated pieces of late-60s graphic design.
