The Smashing Pumpkins formed in Chicago in 1988 around Billy Corgan and James Iha, with D'arcy Wretzky on bass and Jimmy Chamberlin on drums by 1989, and cut Gish (1991) and Siamese Dream (1993) into the alt-rock canon before the double LP Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness in 1995. The Shiny graphic sits with the band's later-era visual language from the reunion cycles onward.
