The drum crest was painted for the sleeve of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967 by fairground artist Joe Ephgrave, one of two drum-skin versions Peter Blake commissioned for the shoot at Chelsea Manor Studios. The circus-billboard lettering has since eclipsed nearly every other visual reference in the Sgt. Pepper universe and become shorthand for the album that reset psychedelic pop.
