Alt-J formed in Leeds in 2007 (Joe Newman, Gwil Sasser, Thom Green, Gus Unger-Hamilton) and won the Mercury Prize in 2012 for An Awesome Wave through Infectious. The name lifts from the Mac keyboard shortcut for the delta character (∆), which then became the band's visual mark across the sleeve for that debut, This Is All Yours (2014), Relaxer (2017) and The Dream (2022). The Bloody Body cap places the mark on a black-panel body.
