Freddie Mercury drew the Queen crest for the July 1973 self-titled EMI debut, putting his art-school training to work by arranging the band members' zodiac signs (two Leos for John Deacon and Roger Taylor, a Cancer for Brian May, a Virgo for Mercury himself) around a central Q crowned with a phoenix. The heraldic mark has anchored the visual identity across every LP through Innuendo (February 1991) and the four-decade tour catalogue since.
