The Jam formed in Woking, Surrey, in 1972 around Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler, running a three-piece mod-punk line-up until their split in 1982. The spray-treated RAF-derived roundel became a shorthand for the mod-revival scene the band led through the late 1970s.
