George Clinton is the architect of Parliament-Funkadelic, the rotating funk collective he has headed since the 1960s, built out of the two bands Parliament and Funkadelic. The catalogue those groups produced is one of the deepest in American music: "Maggot Brain" in 1971,
"Mothership Connection" in 1975 and "One Nation Under a Groove" in 1978, alongside charting singles including "Give Up the Funk", "Flash Light" and the solo cut "Atomic Dog". The P-Funk world drew on psychedelia, science fiction, outlandish costume and surreal humour, and its mythology helped pioneer Afrofuturism while shaping funk, post-punk, hip-hop and post-disco for decades afterwards. The designs in this collection pull from that visual universe.
